Queens College is pleased to offer Art History 200 – Native North American Art as an online course for the Fall semester! This course is a broad survey of Native North American art as produced by a range of interrelated but distinct cultural zones. As such, the course samples from the arts of people from the Eastern Woodlands and Mississippian cultures; the Great Plains and Great Basin; the Southwest Pueblos and California; and the Pacific Northwest and the Arctic. The study of each region concludes with a consideration of individual modern and/or contemporary Native artists.
In its exploration of Native America’s multiple modes of visual expression, this online course includes multi-media presentations (PowerPoints and video links), biweekly reading & writing assignments, online Forum discussions, and a term paper.
This is a rigorous reading-intensive survey. As such, it is best suited to self-motivated students who bring a natural curiosity about the subject as well as a love of reading. The instructor will provide detailed guidance on the research and writing approaches required for this course.
Photo & Imaging classes have a new course number! Any students who are interested in taking Photography courses can now find these courses listed under the “Photography” section in CUNYfirst instead of “Art” and will have the PHOTO prefix instead of ARTS. Non-majors are welcome to take PHOTO courses (prerequisites apply) and registration is open for Fall 2020 classes!
